Watch Lars From 1-10 (1998/10 mins)
This short film by Sophie Fiennes (Guide director) on Lars von Trier screened at Sundance 1999. It is a 10 minute screen portrait in which von Trier reflects on his Dogme rules. The film was shot at von Trier's home in Denmark soon after his return from the Cannes Film Festival 1998. Although he did not win any prizes in Cannes for
The Idiots (his first Dogme film) and was much criticised at the time by journalists for his Dogme 'publicity stunt', the Dogme rules, while personal for von Trier as a film maker, soon provoked the film making community at large into questioning conventional cinematic grammar in the wake of the digital video revolution. (See Zizek on von Trier's DOGVILLE in THE PERVERT'S GUIDE TO CINEMA).
